Heart of Texas Fair and Parade - October 2008 Equine Entry Winner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OKEDA Red Dirt Ride July 24-26, 2008 Boy......what a hot weekend. This seems to always be a theme. Shouldn't drill competitions be held in February or December? The Cowgirls traveled up to Oklahoma in July of 2008. This trip introduced a new variety of competitive talent as well as the added comfort of good planning. The ladies worked very hard for 6 weeks training and raising money to take their style and technique to folks in Oklahoma. With a smooth ride in "Rodeo", three teams in "Quads", and the good old patriotic "Theme", we came out ahead as a team - camaraderie being our biggest trophy. We eeked out of two finish upgrades due to one flag violation and a huge penalty for finishing 4 seconds late. However, those are lessons learned which are just as valuable as taking home more awards. Great job ladies...let's saddle up and ride out the rest of a great performance season!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heart of Texas Fair and Parade - October 2007 Equine Entry Winner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jasper Lions Club Drill Team Competition September 15, 2007 On a much hotter Saturday in Jasper, Texas, the Heart of Texas Cowgirls made a landmark appearance at a drill competition. These awesome women rode their hearts over a grueling summer of rodeo appearances from Brownwood to Mesquite to Hubbard. This difficult, but successful season did not conclude as they anticipated...instead these ladies opted to "cowgirl up" and train less than six weeks to learn three new drills for the Jasper competition. With four ladies riding as many as four different drills, four ladies on fresh new drill horses, a new change of outfit and flag to coincide with each competition appearance, one manager ready to pull her hair out, one team player on the sidelines with an injury, and the ultimate cowgirl who suffered a major collision the morning of competition - these Cowgirls brought home four team trophies, three individual trophies, and the respect of the drill community as well as their own respect for each other. "My hats off to the ladies of true dedication - you each epitomize a true Cowgirl."---Lacey, Drill Sergeant
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jasper Lions Club Drill Team Competition November 4, 2006 On a beautiful Saturday in Jasper, Texas the Heart of Texas Cowgirls became an official team. With 5 members possessing drill experience, 7 brand new ladies with less than 6 months of drill experience (some with only weeks), 1 awesome manager/coach, and loads of support staff and parents, the Cowgirls found new friendships with other wonderful teams, gained experience in a performance setting, achieved recognition for their hard work, and most importantly, they found sisterhood among each other. After being an official team for 4 months, the Cowgirls earned 6 award trophies and 5 team member recognitions:
